Town of Stafford Notary Services
Notary services are available in the Town Clerk's Office. In order for documents requiring a notarial act to be executed properly, the signer must physically appear before the notary, prove his/her identity to the notary via two forms of identification containing the individuals signature, at least one of which also contains the photograph of the signer. The signer must also swear/affirm that the contents of the document are true. The document must be signed in the presence of the notary. The Town Clerk does not notarize wills or living wills, a power of attorney, conveyances of land or property located in Stafford, firearm documents, I-9 Forms for employment verification, or documents written in a foreign language.
Please make sure that your documents are complete (with the exception of your signature). Please be advised that if you wish the Town Clerk office staff to notarize your document, you need to bring the entire document.
Consultations concerning Living Wills, Health Related Wills or Power of Attorney are provided by the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services at no charge.
Notary Public Information
Notary Public commissions are issued by the Office of the Secretary of the State. Before performing any notarial acts, all notaries public, whether new or renewal appointments, must take an oath of office and file their certificate with the Town Clerk in the town in which they reside. The Town Clerk is authorized to administer the oath of office.
