Winter Heating Assistance
WINTER HEATING ASSISTANCE
Stafford Social Services processes applications for the CEAP and CHAP Energy Assistance Programs. We begin taking applications in September for oil and propane heated households. Electric heat households can begin calling for appointments in mid-October.
Required documentation for Energy Assistance appointments:
*Identity - Name, birth date, Social Security number, and state issued ID or birth certificate for each member of the household (*these are only required for first time applicants or new additions to an established household)
Income - Gross income for each household member who is 18 or older; must be for the 4 consecutive weeks immediately prior to your application. Examples include:
Pay stubs, self-employment worksheet or unemployment printout
SS, SSI, SSDI, cash assistance and/or food stamps benefit statement
Pension statement or VA letter
Child support and/or alimony documents or rental income
*If you get monetary support from friends or family members to help you with your bills, there is a form that must be filled out and signed by the person(s) providing the support prior to your appointment.
Housing - Current lease/current rent receipt with landlord contact info/mortgage statement.
Utility - current Eversource bill
Assets - All pages from the most recent bank account statements for each household member who is 18 or older; statements must show bank name, customer name(s), account numbers, all transactions, and beginning and ending balances. Savings passbooks must also be brought in.
