About Shining Stars:

Stafford has it all – beautiful natural landscapes, rich heritage, small town charm and unique cultural assets – but it’s our residents that are our greatest asset. There’s a lot to celebrate in this community and the “Stafford Shining Star” program recognizes the extraordinary accomplishments, generosity and contributions of citizens, local businesses, organizations and clubs. This is our chance to say “thank you” to those who perpetuate civic pride, contribute to the development of our community, have realized notable achievements or make Stafford a better place to live.

The responsibilities of a police officer are varied, with typical duties related to keeping the peace, law enforcement, and the protection of people and property. We are truly thankful for each of our dedicated officers who serve and defend our town. While each is essential, it’s no secret that Officer Jose Martinez continues to go above and beyond, not just working for Stafford, but as a genuine part of our community.

As the School Resource Officer, Officer Martinez ensures a safe learning environment for Stafford students, serves as a valuable resource for staff members and fosters positive relationships with our youth - and beyond. Moreover, he’s a mentor - a kind, caring, trusted adult who will give you a smile and high-five, then ask you how your day is going. He’s a visible and integral part of school and the Stafford community, seeing and encouraging the “good” in those he encounters each day.

Though Officer Martinez takes the responsibility to protect and serve seriously, he always finds the time to get involved, interact with residents and have fun. He seems to be everywhere - wearing pink uniform shirts and raising money with students to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Organization, rallying fellow Officers for No-Shave November in support of the Connecticut Cancer Foundation, or even sledding with neighborhood kids down Hyde Park hill. The list of his involvement is extensive, along with the one-on-one thoughtfulness he gives to all individuals, particularly our youngest residents. He brings not only devotion, but a joy to the Town of Stafford. Officer Martinez is the epitome of a community officer, giving it his all while inspiring others to do the same. He serves as a role model for civic pride and service, showing that random acts of kindness are meant to be a lifelong endeavor.

Supportive relationships are at the heart of a community and Officer Martinez perpetually works toward making ours a caring, inclusive and participatory place - and extends these values to all. Thank you, Officer Martinez - and each of our Officers - for all you do, keeping us safe and being a positive force in Stafford.
