The Town of Stafford has approximately 120 miles of road maintained by the DPW. Their goal is to keep the roads clean, brush trimmed, smooth traveling, and plowed in the winter. Along with keeping the streets safe, the DPW maintains the Town's vehicles and equipment, the parks and ball fields, and all Town buildings.

Service District Refuse and Recycling Collection
The Town of Stafford recently entered into a new agreement with All American Waste for refuse and recycling services in the Service District for one- and two-family homes. As part of the agreement, we will be making changes to our waste management program that will not only make the collection more convenient but also contribute to a cleaner environment. Between November 1st and 3rd, we are rolling out new trash and recycling carts. See the below documents for more details.

Project 9134-0007 - Replacement of Westford Avenue Bridge over Baker Brook
Project L134-0001 - Furnace Avenue Reconstruction - Phase I
Beginning Friday, June 14, 2024, Furnace Avenue will be closed due to roadway construction. It is anticipated that this closure will last through July in order to complete the roadway reconstruction.

The roadway will be closed to through traffic from approximately 2,000 feet north of Edgewood Street to County Road. Access to residences on Furnace Avenue will be maintained during construction. Motorists should use East Main Street, East Street, and Orcuttville Road or Main Street, Monson Road, and Orcuttville Road as a detour.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.

This project is being funded through the CT DOT Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP). Questions regarding the project may be directed to the Department of Public Works at 860-684-3448 or
