Former Earl M Witt School: Notice of Public Hearing & Public Comment Period
NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING AND PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
NOTICE IS HERE BY GIVEN that a Public Hearing and 30-day public comment period is being held for all interested persons relative to the draft Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) for property known as the former Earl M. Witt School located at 20 Hyde Park Road in Stafford, Connecticut (the Site). The property was decommissioned by the Board of Education and ownership was transferred to the Town of Stafford on November 26, 2007.
The project is supported by a FY2022 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Cleanup Cooperative Agreement with a Town cost-share. The draft ABCA summarizes the findings of previous investigations conducted at the Site and presents a description of potential remediation options. In addition, the draft ABCA compares the remediation options and presents a proposed remediation plan for the Site. The 30-day comment period begins with the publishing of this announcement and will end on October 16, 2023. The public is encouraged to review and comment on the draft ABCA during the public comment period. Copies of the draft ABCA and related documents are available for public review on the Town's website (www.staffordct.org) and at Warren Memorial Town Hall. To conduct a review of the ABCA, please contact the Town’s Office of Grants & Community Development at (860) 851-8102 during normal business hours.
A public hearing concerning the draft ABCA has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 6:30 pm at the Stafford Community Center, located at 3 Buckley Highway, Stafford, Connecticut. A summary of tasks accomplished under the FY19 EPA Brownfields Town-Assessment Grant will also be presented at this time. Comments concerning the draft ABCA may be presented at the public meeting or forwarded to Amber Wakley, Director of the Grants & Community Development, at amberw@staffordct.org or at Warren Memorial Town Hall, 1 Main Street, Stafford, CT 06076. Please use the subject line "Cleanup Draft ABCA Comment." and submit by Monday, October 16, 2023, at 4:30 p.m.
