Taxes Due Reminder

REMINDER – TAXES DUE ON OR BEFORE
MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2022
LEGAL NOTICE
 TAXPAYERS, TOWN OF STAFFORD

 

All persons liable to pay Property Taxes in the Town of STAFFORD are notified that the First Installment of taxes on the Grand List of October 1, 2021, are due July 1, 2022, and payable without interest through August 1, 2022

Failure to pay the tax on or before August 1, 2022, will render the tax delinquent and interest will be charged at the rate of 1+1/2% per month from the due date OR a MINIMUM INTEREST OF $2.00.  The higher amount prevails, AND INTEREST APPLIES SEPARATELY TO THE TOWN AND DISTRICT

Taxes can be mailed to P.O. Box 111 Stafford Springs, CT  06076; paid online at staffordct.org; placed in the black drop box located on the right side of Town Hall; paid at the Tax Collector’s Office, Warren Memorial Town Hall, Stafford, CT. 

Town Hall hours: Monday-Wednesday 8:00am-4:30pm; Thursday 8:00am-6:30pm; CLOSED FRIDAYS. 

General Information

Tax bills were mailed on Friday, June 24, 2022.  If you did not receive a tax bill, please contact the Tax Office at 860-684-1760 or email irvings@staffordct.org or dillon@staffordct.org

When mailing in your tax payment if you would like a receipt, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.

REAL ESTATE:                  If you escrow your real estate taxes but received your bill please forward the bill to your bank immediately and notify the Tax Office.

If you sold your real estate after October 1, 2021, please return this bill to the Tax Office.

MOTOR VEHICLE:            If you receive a tax bill for a vehicle your no longer own the Assessor’s Office will need a copy of the bill of sale, junk receipt, etc. and a copy of the cancelled plate receipt. 

If you transferred plates to another vehicle, you still owe the current bill in full on the old vehicle.  You will receive a supplemental (pro-rated) bill in January for the new vehicle which gives you a credit for paying on the old vehicle.

PERSONAL PROPERTY: State Statute does not permit the proration of personal property.  If you have personal property in your name as of October 1, 2021, you are responsible for the bill.

If you have received a tax bill from a Town that you did not reside in or garage your vehicle in as of October 1, 2021, contact the Tax Assessor to request a transfer to the correct Town/City of residency as of October 1, 2021.

If motor vehicle taxes are unpaid, you will not be able to register any motor vehicles in your name.  Delinquent motor vehicle taxes must be paid in cash, bank check, credit card or money order in order to be cleared with DMV.
