Town Hall availability on Election Day Nov 3rd

Warren Memorial Town Hall will be closed to the general public on Tuesday November 3, 2020, Election Day, to allow for Election Day Registration and any election-related business. Scheduled Six-Week Closure and Detour of Route 319 in Stafford for Construction Activities

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled closure and detour of Route 319 in Stafford from September 21, through October 30, 2020. The closure is necessary to facilitate roadway reconstruction activities, including installation of new drainage, realignment of the roadway, and reconstruction of vertical grades to improve sight lines on Route 319 (Orcuttville Road) between Route 32 and Route 190 in Stafford.

Detour information


The section of Route 319 between Routes 32 and 190 will be detoured for EB (non-truck) traffic via Route 190 East to Route 32 in Stafford Springs (Stafford), left onto Route 32 North, follow Route 32 NB to Route 319; WB (non-truck) traffic via Route 32 south to Route 190, right onto Route 190 West, follow Route 190 WB.


EB truck traffic will be detoured from Route 190 East, right onto Route 30 in West Stafford, follow Route 30 SB to Route 140 at Crystal Lake in Ellington, left onto Route 140 East, then follow Route 140 EB to West Street in Stafford Springs (Stafford), left onto West Street, follow West Street to intersection with Route 32/190, left onto Route 32 North/190 West, then branch right onto Route 32 North, follow Route 32 NB to Route 319; WB truck traffic will be detoured from Route 319 West, left onto Route 32 in Stafford, follow Route 32 SB to Route 32/190 in Stafford Springs (Stafford), continue straight on Route 32 South/190 East, then right onto West Street, follow West Street to Route 140, right onto Route 140, follow Route 140 WB to Route 30 at Crystal Lake in Ellington, right onto Route 30, follow Route 30 NB to Route 190 in West Stafford.

DOT Project No. 0134-0147 started on April 13, 2020, with an anticipated completion date of September 3, 2021. The prime contractor is Spazzarini Construction Company, Inc.

Wood Chips Available for Residents Free of Charge

The Town of Stafford Transfer Station has wood chips available free of charge. Wood chips may be picked up during normal operating hours (7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wed., Fri., Sat., and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thurs.) Residents will be required to load the wood chips on their own vehicles. There is no limit to the amount of wood chips that can be taken. Available while supplies last.

Pavement Marking Changes will be Implemented on Route 190 (E. Jct.) at Route 32 (S. Jct.) Rotary in Stafford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that pavement marking changes will be implemented on the Route 190 (E. Jct.) at Route 32 (S. Jct.) to improve the functionality of the rotary in Stafford. Safety Markings, Inc. in cooperation with the Department of Transportation will be restriping the rotary at Route 190 (E. Jct.) and Route 32 (S. Jct.). These pavement marking improvements are being performed to bring the circulatory roadway closer to the standards of a modern roundabout and to improve the overall functionality and safety of the intersection. The pavement marking improvements will result in the Route 190 (E. Jct.) at Route 32 (S. Jct.) traffic to experience momentary delays due to either lane closures and/or temporary traffic halts. The work is anticipated to begin on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. and continue until complete in the same evening or early morning hours of Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity and through all work zones.

Update Regarding Town Playground Facilities

At the request of many residents, the Town of Stafford has removed access restrictions from the playgrounds at Olympic Field and Hyde Park. It should be noted that these structures are NOT disinfected regularly. Use of these facilities will be at your own risk. Please maintain prescribed social distancing practices at these locations. With COVID-19 still prevalent, please be vigilant about wearing a face covering, staying 6 feet away from others, and practicing regular hand washing. Children should be accompanied by an adult when utilizing these facilities. The playground facilities at West Stafford School, Staffordville School, and Stafford Elementary School will remain closed.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the commencement of work activities for the construction of a modern roundabout at Route 190 and Route 319 in Stafford, beginning on April 13, 2020. see attached for more details: [More Information]

Leonard Road Bridge

The Town of Stafford has been working diligently to procure funding for the repair of the Leonard Road Bridge located at the intersection of Leonard Road and Route 319. This bridge was closed in the interest of public safety as a result of the Connecticut Department of Transportations last inspection. We have been notified of a commitment to fund for the replacement of the Leonard Road over Furnace Brook - Bridge # 04778 through the Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP). The LOTCIP application for this project has been approved and has committed $1,712,000 for the construction costs related to the replacement of this bridge. The Local Capital Improvement Program is a State of Connecticut funding mechanism that distributes formula-based entitlement funds to municipalities to reimburse the cost of eligible capital improvement projects such as bridges. The final engineering and permitting is now in process. The Town still has much work to conduct prior to the start of construction but finally has a financial basis for which to proceed. As further progress advances, the Town will provide public statements to keep residents informed. Please feel free to contact the Department of Public Works in the Warren Memorial Town Hall for any additional information regarding this exciting project.

New CERT Members Needed

The Town of Stafford Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is comprised of volunteer citizens, who are trained in basic life safety and emergency preparedness skills. The program is community based in order to provide rapid and safe care for our residents and to provide support to the Towns emergency personnel in the event of a major incident or large scale disaster. The team has and will continue further training in order to provide residents and first responders with the most effective support. It will also focus on public education in order to increase the emergency preparedness of all residents in our community. [More Information]
