June is Dog Licensing Month
Connecticut state law requires that all dogs 6 months and older be licensed in the town in which they live. All dog licenses must be renewed by June 30th of each year. After June 30th of each year, there is a $1.00 registration penalty for each month a dog has been unregistered. And while that $1.00 for each month late is a penalty for registration, there can be a larger fine imposed by the Animal Control Officer. So it's important to get your dog registered during the month of June; and well, it is the law! Currently there are approximately 2075 dogs registered with the Town of Stafford. This year the Town Clerk honors Stafford's Narcotics Detection K9 with the #1 license and tag! Loki is a remarkably skilled two year old black lab. The Town of Stafford received a generous grant of $2500.00 from the NORCROSS Wildlife Foundation to procure a Narcotics Detection K9. Local Police Officer James Kodzis is Loki's handler. Loki is the sixth narcotics canine that Officer Kodzis has handled. Officer Kodzis passionately states that " Any time we can keep controlled substances out of the Town of Stafford--that is a good thing", and Town Clerk Karen Troiano agrees. That is why Loki will have the honor of wearing Stafford Dog Tag #1 for the year. And while Loki is pretty remarkable, he cannot speak, but if he could he would say "Remember to license your dog by June 30th!" Regular office hours are Monday-Wednesday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and Thursday 8:00 am to 6:30 pm. The office is open during the lunch hour. For your added convenience we will have special dog registration hours on Saturday June 4, 2016 from 9 am to noon at the Warren Memorial Town Hall. Animal Control Officer Gary Wilson has arranged a Rabies Clinic in the town hall parking lot for that same date and time. Dr. David Mordasky and pre vet student Andrew Mordasky of Stafford Veterinary Center will be offering rabies vaccines for a $15.00 cash fee. The clinic will be held in the town hall parking lot. They will be returning for a second Rabies Clinic which will be held on Saturday June 25, 2016 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. The Town Clerk's office will also be open for licensing at that same time. One stop shopping seems to make a lot of sense. Remember you may also renew your license by mail and please enclose a self addressed stamped envelope for us to promptly return your license via mail. (1-3 tags 70 cents; 4 tags 90 cents). Renewing by mail means no standing in lines! Please check your notice to see if your dog needs an updated rabies certificate. The notice will be stamped in red if the rabies inoculation needs updating. Also, if your dog has recently been spayed or neutered, please submit verification. Registration is less expensive if your dog has been spayed or neutered. If you no longer have your dog or you have moved out of town please let us know so that we may remove the information and update our registration list. You may call the office at 860-684-1765 or email email@example.com We encourage you to stop by in the month of June and register your dog and enter our Guess How Many Candy Dog Bonz in the Jug contest.
