Winter Weather Reminder from the Department of Public Works

Winter Weather Reminder from the Department of Public Works

With impending inclement weather on the forecast for this weekend, the Department of Public Works would like to take this opportunity to provide a friendly reminder to residents of the Town of Stafford Ordinances relevant to winter weather.

Ordinance 6-1: Parking on any highway within the boundaries of the Town of Stafford during any period when it is snowing or freezing rain, or so as to interfere with or hamper the removal of snow or ice, shall be prohibited. (Vehicles will be ticketed and may be towed at the owner’s expense).

While we do our best to notify residents of parking bans as inclement weather approaches, parking bans are effective any time it is snowing, freezing rain, or snow and ice removal activities are in place, regardless of prior notification provided.

Ordinance 7-4: The owner, or the court-appointed conservator or trustee, of any property within the Town of Stafford, shall be responsible for the snow removal on abutting sidewalk(s) and around abutting fire hydrant(s). Said snow/ice removal shall be accomplished within twenty-four (24) hours after the snowfall.

CGS Section 19a-335 prohibits the deposit of snow or other materials on public highways. This includes piles pushed across the street by residents or their hired contractors.

A copy of the full text of all town ordinances is on file in the Town Clerk's Office and is also available on the town’s website.
